The research group on Applied Operational Research of the University of São Paulo, School of Engineering of São Carlos established in 1993, on the initiative of Professor João Vitor Moccellin.

The objective of the group was to initiate the postgraduate program in Production Engineering, and in 1995 the first discipline was created, called Sequencing Techniques in Machine Programming.

In the following year the program effectively started, being disconnect from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In addition, the disciplines “Operational Research Applied to Production Theories I and II” also were relevant to complete the curriculum needed to obtain the master’s degree in the area.

In 2001, with the creation of the Department of Production Engineering, Laboratory of Applied Operational Research (LAOR) was born. Since then, it has contributed to the scientific community in its area, developing relevant and high impact research.
